Tea Brokers East Africa Limited (TBEA) is an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System Certified Tea Brokerage Company in Kenya that was established in 1978. It is licensed by the Tea Directorate and is a member of the East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA).

We offer tea brokerage services: tea tasting, tea marketing and selling, tea market report and statistics and factory advisory services. On a weekly basis our producers allocate us teas that we publish in our catalogue. We deliver the samples to the buyers and sale on a weekly basis on the Intergrated Tea Trade System in accordance to the East Africa Tea Trade Association rules and regulations. After its establishment, the company had joint managing directors, Henry de Montfort and David Mathenge. The other directors representing shareholders at the time were George Emkes and Ejidio Wahome.

Over the years, Richard Surrey, Geoff Darrel, Zach Onditi and Ken Mwangi have been at the helm.

Currently the Chairperson Board of Directors is Ms. Judith W. Kibaki and Mr. Samuel Karima is the Managing Director. Mr. Samuel Karima is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and is in the final stages of his MBA at the United States International University Nairobi. Mr. Karima works alongside the experienced Finance Director Mr. Nisar Khalfan who’s been with the company since inception. They lead a diversely rich team of Tea Executives comprising of Mr. Paul Mutegi, Ms Caroline Kariuki, Mr. Weslay Ndubi, Mr. Bernard Mchigani and Mr. Mwariga Mukundi and the Accountant Mr. Ali Omar.

Our Team

Samuel Karima

Managing Director

Samuel has been in the Tea industry and management for over 25 years having held various positions at the British American Tobacco before moving on to KTDA as the General Manager Sales and Marketing in the year 2000. In the last six years, he has been involved in the Tea privatization programme in Burundi as the Managing Director at Prothem Usine s.a. - Gisozi Tea, the first private Tea Factory in Burundi. He is also a certified ISO 9000 Auditor.
He is graduate of the University of Nairobi and at the final stage of his MBA at the United States International University in Nairobi.

Nisar Khalfan

Finance Director

Nisar has been with the company since 1978. He is a member of the Assosciation of International Accountants(UK). He currently serves as the Head of Finance and is a Director on the TBEAL board. Nisar brings to TBEAL vast financial experience and advice.

Paul Mutegi

Tea Manager

Paul has 27 years experience in the tea trade. He has honed his skills over the course of his career at TBEAL and is well versed with the various facets of the tea trade. He gained technical experience from various factory stints and training workshops.

Caroline Kariuki

Tea Executive

Caroline has been a member of the TBEAL family for the last 12 years. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Dairy Science & Technology from Egerton University. She plays a pivotal role in the auctioning of our teas and has completed various related courses.

Weslay Ndubi

Tea Executive

Joining in 2010, Weslay holds a Bachelors of Science in Food Science & Technology from Egerton University. He also holds a Graduate Diploma in purchasing and supply from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply(UK). Over the years, he has honed his skills in Tea Market analysis.

Bernard Mchigani

Tea Executive

Bernard has spent 22 years in tea circles at various positions and with emphasis on factory manufacture and management. He holds a Diploma in Agricultural Engineering from Egerton university. Bernard serves as the technical expert to producers on factory manufacture, among other executive duties.

Mwariga Mukundi

Tea Executive

Mwariga joined Tea Brokers East Africa in 2016. In the last five years he has been fully trained and equipped with all the facets of the company through tea tasting, selling and customer relationship management. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Strathmore University.
